Test restrictions by frequency, grade or term

« Go Back
Information
The proctor attempts to confirm a student test (through the admin console or proctor interrupt) and receives the message "Test restricted by frequency", "Test restricted by term" or "Test restricted by grade".

Your organization can restrict the number of times that a student may retest, restrict tests to particular grades or which term they can test in.

If restricted by frequency is enabled and a student has already completed the test once that term, this message will display next to the student’s name when the proctor tries to confirm the student.

If restricted to particular grades the district can ensure the tests available are grade appropriate. When enabled and a student has the test assigned to them in a live test session, this message will be displayed next to the student’s name when a proctor tries to confirm the student. If the test is assigned in a saved test session, the test assignment will be removed once the session is restarted.

When opening a test session containing tests that have been restricted by term, you will see the message "These students had previously been assigned a test which is no longer available or is restricted by term or grade. If you wish to continue using this Testing Session, please click the "Ignore and Continue" button."

This message occurs when the System Administrator has restricted a test to certain testing terms. For example, end-of-course tests are often restricted to the spring term.

Test Restricted by Frequency

Exclude the previous test from reports:

Users with the Data Administrator role can exclude the previous test from reports to allow the student to test again. This is the preferred option as it does not change district-level settings and only affects the single student. See Overriding a Test Restriction in the MAP Help Center.

Configure frequency restriction to unlimited:

Users with the System Administrator role can change the existing test restriction from Once Per Term to Unlimited. Please keep in mind this will change this setting for the entire district, and all students will be able to retest. If only one student needs to retest, it is better to exclude the individual test event. For steps to change test restrictions for a district, see Set Test Restrictions in the MAP Help Center

Test restricted by grade

Re-assign the correct test for the student's grade:

  1. Select the student in the test session.
  2. Select Assign Tests.
  3. Select the test from the menu.
  4. Click Assign to finish assigning the test.

How do we change test restrictions?

Users with the System Administrator role can modify test restrictions. See Restricting Tests Students Can Take in the MAP Help Center.

Test restriction settings affect the entire district. Changes to the test restrictions will take affect immediately. However, proctors may need to log out and log back in to MAP Growth in order to see the changes.

Test restricted by term

If you believe the restrictions are set in error, you can contact your organization's System Administrator. System Administrators have the ability to modify test restrictions for the district. Please note that changing these settings will effect the entire district. Changes take effect immediately.

How to modify test restrictions:

  1. Select Modify Preferences in the left navigation menu in the MAP Administration and Reporting Center (MARC).
  2. Choose Modify Tests.
  3. Select the tests you wish to change and click Configure Test Settings.
  4. Modify the settings as desired. Note that in order to restrict a test to a particular term or grade, you must first de-select All Terms or All Grades.
  5. Click Assign. The changes will be applied immediately; there is no confirmation screen.
