To resolve this issue, you can use an alternate username or email address. It's also possible the student or user already has a MAP account with your organization or another organization that uses MAP. Take the steps below to try to locate the existing account:
Username or email address in use at another organization:
Username: Usernames must be unique across all MAP users or students. If you assign usernames such as jsmith, it is likely the username is already in use. For usernames, we recommend using an email address as they are more likely to be unique across all MAP accounts.
Email address: If the user or student has previously used their email at another organization that uses MAP, they may need to use an alternate email address with your organization. You can try contacting the previous school or district to see if they can remove the username or email address.
Search for inactive user accounts:
If you get this error when adding or updating a user, you can take the following steps to see if the user already has an account that is inactive.
- Navigate to Manage Users.
- Select the Include Inactive Users checkbox.
- Search for the user. You may need to search by last name only, or email address.
If the user appears, you can reactivate the account and modify it as necessary.
Check for a roster file import in progress:
The username or email address may be included in a roster file that is currently being processed. To check, follow these instructions:
- Navigate to Import Profiles.
- If the Import Status section is anything other than Access NWEA Legacy Rostering, then the user listed under Initiated By has a roster in progress.
- Contact the initiating user to find out if the email address or username is included in the in-progress roster.
