How do I change a student's username in MAP?

Note:  The information in this article applies to Manual rostering for NWEA MAP Growth only. Please visit MAP Growth Rostering Resource Central for information on rostering with the updated HMH Rostering Service.

You can specify student usernames in the MAP roster template. If you do not specify a username, a random username will be created for the student when you generate the student's password.

For details, see: Assigning Passwords, Readiness Checks, and Tests in the MAP Help Center.

To change the username, you have two options:

  • Edit the student's profile under Manage Students, or:
  • Re-import your MAP roster.

Note: Currently partners licensed for MAP Growth only must re-import a roster to update student usernames.

Will students be duplicated if I re-import a roster to change usernames?

No, as long as all the other student information remains the same.

Will student usernames be changed if I submit a new roster with the student username field empty?

Student usernames, automatically generated or not, will not be regenerated if you submit a new roster with the username field blank. The student's username will remain the same until and unless you change it in Manage Students or submit a roster with a new username.

How does Clever sync usernames?

The MAP username is set to the email address in your student information system (SIS). If the student already has a different username in MAP, the username will be replaced with the email address from your SIS if it is being shared. MAP will ignore any "username" fields from your SIS and will only use the email address field to create usernames in MAP. If you do not share a student email from Clever, the username field will not be changed. If you no longer wish to share usernames to MAP, contact Clever Support to adjust your sharing settings.
